Our Story 📜
Long nights alone watching Netflix. Occasional trips to the kitchen to make food. Scrolling through TikTok and Instagram Reels. The day in the life of a university student feels disconnected now more than ever. Butterfly is here to solve that.
The founding team is made up of 7 undergraduate students in the UK. We all felt the anxiety and isolation many students experience when going to university, the fear that we weren’t going to make any friends, the FOMO from not living our uni lives to the fullest. We banded together and started working to improve the system, and after months of teamwork and dedication, Butterfly was born.
Social Impact 🩵
According to HEPI 2022, up to 25% of university students are “lonely all the time”. Online lectures haven’t helped, costs of living haven’t helped, worst of all, students are spending more time alone in their rooms than ever before.
Much of our founding team has experienced the social anxiety, depression, and loneliness that accompanies the university journey. With an ambitious goal to reconnect isolated students to their campus community, Butterfly aims to drive national impact in enhancing young people’s mental health outcomes. So far, we’ve won Ingenuity’s Regional Social Impact award for our contributions and we are determined to continue having a positive impact for students.
